Janette's Family Day Care at Carlton.

Hi my name is Janette and I am a registered educator with Integricare Family Day Care Scheme. I live with my son who is 11 years old.

I have 22 years experience in the field of educating children. I have worked 8 of those years in Early Childhood Education. My current qualification is a Diploma of Children's Services.

Children who come to my centre will be given an individualized program that incorporates the Early Learning Years Framework: Belonging, Being and Becoming.

Your child will be involved in experiences that cover all outcomes, principles and practices in this framework. Some of these experiences will be sensory involving playdough, waterplay, sandplay and painting. Others will concentrate on language with feltboard stories, songs and lots of books.

I offer care for children between the ages of 0-6 years old.  My hours of operating are between 7.30am - 6.00 pm ( Mon, Tues, Wed) There is flexibility within this range.

Parkside Montessori is a small family owned and run long day care centre in Mortdale Heights. Our staff are trained in the Montessori method with many years experience, some staff were Montessori children themselves.  As well as offering the children a beautiful environment we also offer Yoga, dance and Italian by our own staff who are qualified in these areas. We are open 49 weeks a year from 8:00am until 4:00pm each weekday.

The Montessori approach fosters children's love of learning and encourages independence by providing activities and materials that children use at their own pace. This builds self-confidence, inner discipline, a sense of self-worth and instils positive social behaviour. The approach forms a basis for a love of life-long learning. Parkside Montessori's philosophy of introducing children to essential life-skills at a very early age and building their confidence in themselves by encouraging them to have successful learning experiences at their own pace and at their own directions, develops children who are more able to make the most of their later educational opportunities of whatever standard, because their experience of learning has been so positive, enjoyable and self affirming by the time they are 6.

Montessori education was originally developed to serve the needs of the impoverished children in Rome whose parents were rural peasants. These children were the first members of their families to pick up a book yet in the Montessori classroom they learned to read and write using the fuel of their natural curiosity in a short time guided by Dr. Montessori. They astonished educational authorities around the world. The Montessori philosophy advocates respect, understanding and communication. It also fosters a natural peace within the child and therefore within communities. Dr. Montessori was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize 3 times as the world could see that the future lies with our children and we must provide an environment that allows them to be curious and mindful.

When Montessori education is introduced to children their communities have noticed that the children enjoy using the beautiful, self-correcting Montessori materials and how much their independence develops. Within the Montessori classroom there are many opportunities for practical experience with everyday life skills. Parents and teachers have noticed large and rapid improvements in children's language, concentration, attitude to school, rate of learning and personal behaviour. Visitors to the school often comment on the happy nature of the children, their beautiful interactions with each other and the respect they show towards their friends and their environment.

Montessori education is growing steadily in Australia. Parkside Montessori is offered to families with children 2-6 years of age. Montessori professionals also work to support the needs of children outside the classroom setting, with a particular emphasis on parent-education and community outreach programs. Parkside will also be offering a Montessori Parent & Toddler program for children under 3 facilitated by an AMI 0-3 trained Directress. We also offer parent education evenings and in-home consultation.

In today's world it is more important than ever that children become motivated individuals able to develop to their full potential. Parkside Montessori inspires the whole child and supports their potential in the community now and in the future.

Chatabout Speech Pathology  is a family centred practice that specialises in seeing children of all ages for a wide range of speech, language, and learning difficulties.

First Aid For You  specialise in a 2 hour information and demonstration session on the most important child related first aid any parent, grand parent, parent to be or any person in care of children should learn!

In a relaxed and practical, hands on session participants will learn the skills and gain understanding on how to manage child related emergencies, these include:

• Child and Baby Resuscitation
• Choking Management
• Allergic Reaction Management
• Head Injuries & Convulsions 
• Plus many more 'must know' topics and tips on child safety.

Private courses only require a minimum group size of 6 people and WE COME TO YOU. Babies and children are also very welcome to attend all our sessions.

Choosing the right child restraint can be confusing.... Remember

A child that is properly secured in an approved child restraint is less likely to be injured or killed in a car crash than one who is not.

Child restraints can be purchased from retail outlets or hired from some local councils, some maternity hospitals, community groups and from privately run rental companies.
Child restraints available in Australia must meet the Australian /New Zealand Standard 1754:2004 Child restraints for use in motor vehicles. The standard is one of the toughest child restraint standards in the world and child restraints manufactured to this Standard offer good protection in a crash.

A significant number of the restraints have been tested and assessed under the Child Restrain Evaluation Programme (CREP).

Remember

• Using a restraint correctly greatly increases a child's safety during a crash.
• Placing a child in a restraint that is designed for a larger/older child increases the risk of serious injury in a crash.
• Ensure the restraint is installed correctly. See a restraint fitter if in any doubt.
• Always use the top tether strap where required.
• Teach your child to always keep both arms within the harness system of the child seat or the seat belt of the booster seat.
• When using a seat belt with a booster, ensure the seat belt is correctly fitted over the child's shoulder.
• Move your child into a forward-facing restraint only when they no longer fit into a rearward-facing restraint.
• Move your child into a booster seat only when they no longer fit into a forward-facing restraint.
• Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
