CENTRE NEWS
Banbury Cottage
With so much talk on Vivid lights, we decided to put on our own Vivid experience at the service. We created our own light cave with various glowing light up objects for exploration, we had glowing jellyfish lamps in at our painting table, our playground at night had its own light up show with fairy lights, hanging lit up bird houses & our own weaved glow web. Many children shared their experiences about visiting Vivid in the city and for those that didn't get to experience the city, we are sure they will remember our Banbury Vivid experience.
We had the pleasure of having Sydney Dental Services come down to our centre to provide the children with a Dental check up and tooth clean (parent permissions were required and Medicare funded for those eligible). It was a great experience to have a dentist set up in our centre, with a functioning Dentist Chair, dental equipment, water hose, electric toothbrush and so much more. The children's teeth were checked, counted and given a clean, and a coating of flouride was applied over the teeth at the end of the session. The children did a great job confidently showing their teeth to the dentist. Well done friends.
A huge congratulations to our 3 Childcare centres, Rainbow Cottage, Banbury Cottage & Babyland Child Care Centre for being nominated as finalists into the St George Small business awards last month. It was a wonderful event to be part of and we are so happy we got to share it with all the other wonderful businesses. A huge congratulations to the winners and all the other centres for being finalists.
We just recently celebrated Rainbow Cottage's 14th Birthday! Yes 14 years !! Wow where did the time go? We have made so many beautiful friendships with the children and their families over the 14 years of being open. We have seen our little friends grow up into teenagers, bumping into them at the shops or whilst out with their families is truly a blessing. We love what we do, we love our Rainbow family and all that have been and are part of it. We had a great time celebrating it with all the families.
We also are really proud of our Educators for the passion they have and bring to our centre. Our Educators create fun, creative, engaging, challenging, comfortable learning environments for the children to explore. They work together to make projects with the children, they research, they collect, they plan, they problem solve, they get the children involved and together they create. Thank you to our wonderful Rainbow Educators for all you do.
Networking with services in our community is important to us. We were very lucky to have Ayar Dental join us during June to discuss and teach the children the importance of oral hygiene. Demonstrating how to brush our teeth, and making sure our little friends allow their mums and dads to continue to help them.
If you are looking for Child Care now or would like to be placed on our waiting list, please give us a call to do this and/or organise a tour of the centre, we would love to show you around.
Babyland Child Care Centre will welcome this month the Living Eggs chicken hatching program. The unique 10 day experience will visit our centre for the children to learn and explore the hatching and incubating lifecycle of baby chicks. Not only do they experience life cycles and growth and development, the program encourages social interaction and promotes caring and nurturing skills.
The teachers’ resources support the program and provide many ideas to extend the children’s experience.
Children and families at our service become involved in the centre and the curriculum in different ways by offering their time and ideas to contribute to further learning development of our children. Families develop relationships with our educators so they can feel safe secure and supported. We feel that this is very important as it also helps us build strong bonds with the children which helps them feel comfortable in the centre environment and thus they can play learn and grow their strong healthy minds. Please call or visit the centre for a tour or to place your name on the waiting list. Currently taking enrolments for 2019.
Little Dolphins has been super busy over the past few weeks as we celebrate many cultural celebrations. The children were super excited to come to school in their Pyjama’s for a whole week as we had a pyjama party. They looked so warm and rugged up in their robes and slippers.
The children have also enjoyed celebrating Eid where they participated in a variety of craft experiences as well as our upcoming NAIDOC week experiences and are looking forward to our incursion from the Muru Mittigar Group who joined us last year and again this year to involve and educate the children in some indigenous dancing, story time and showing the children a variety of resources they bring for their visit.
To celebrate RED NOSE DAY the children are encouraged to wear an item of red clothing. The educators have also planned to paint the children’s noses red and engage in a variety of experiences to help support this foundation. We look forward to many more eventful and fun months to come.
PARENT INFORMATION
Kids and Poisons In New South Wales, every year thousands of children need medical care for poisoning from products commonly found in and around the home. Most accidental poisonings occur to children younger than five, with children aged one to three at greatest risk.
Why are children more likely to be poisoned? Young children are exploring their world and will put anything in their mouths. They also like to imitate what others do, including taking medications.
What can be poisonous to your child? Medicines, cleaning, laundry, gardening and car products, insecticides, perfumes, paint, plants, insects and many others.
How can you prevent a poisoning?
- Store medicines and chemicals out of sight and reach of children, at least 1.5 metres off the ground and in a locked child resistant container.
- Use medicines and chemicals safely. Follow given instructions and return them to safe storage immediately after use.
- Buy products in child resistant containers and use child resistant locks on cupboards or cabinets that store poisons. You can buy these at many hardware stores.
- Ensure all products are stored in original containers and are clearly labelled. Regularly dispose of unwanted and out of date medicines by taking them to your nearest pharmacy for safe disposal.
- Don't call medicines 'lollies'.
- Check that the plants in your garden are not poisonous
